University Staff United (USU)

The University Staff United (USU) bargaining unit was recognized by the University of Michigan in February 2025. This unit represents employees in student and instructional services roles across the university.

Employees in student and instructional services positions play an essential role in advancing the university’s educational mission and supporting student success. These roles contribute directly to the learning environment and the overall student experience.

Employees in the Instructional Services, Academic & Student Services, Arts, Libraries & Museums, Administration, and Research job families may be included in the USU bargaining unit. These positions provide support to students and academic programs across the University’s 19 schools and colleges, as well as Student Life units across all three campuses. A complete list of USU job titles is available here.

The current USU collective bargaining agreement is in effect through August 31, 2029.

Employees with questions about bargaining unit status or related HR processes may contact Staff HR Services or refer to the USU information page.
