Many sponsors require matching funds or cost sharing obligations. The form and source of funding able to be included as ‘matching funds’ or ‘cost share’ may vary according to the rules of a particular research sponsor. Where permitted, a portion of faculty salary for time assigned to the project but not funded by the sponsor may be included in the project budget. All requests for College support beyond the assignment of an individual faculty member’s discretionary funds must be reviewed and approved in advance by the Associate Dean for Research + Creative Practice.
In some contexts, Program Chairs assign funded student GSRAs to faculty members to catalyze their research efforts and align student research interests with faculty research portfolios. In these cases, faculty may be able to include the value of students as assigned to form part of College-borne cost matches. All arrangements of this type must be reviewed in advance and approved in writing by the Program Chair.
