There are several steps to take in career preparation during your time at Taubman College. We recommend that you work on career preparation throughout your time at Taubman. Just like coursework and studio projects – if you leave it to the last minute, it can become overwhelming!

Refer to the career preparation checklists below for ideas and suggestions for each year of your Taubman College experience.

Get Started Early

Want to get started before you even begin at Taubman College? Consider these summer activities:

  • Get a LinkedIn profile set up (if you don’t have one already)
    • Practice using filters to find alumni and other professionals in interesting jobs and organizations. Notice the skills and experiences that have led them to their current role.
    • “Follow” professional organizations and employers of interest.
  • Seek out tutorials (through YouTube, LinkedIn learning, etc.) for relevant technologies in your field:
    • Architecture: Sketchup / Rhino / Revit / AutoCad, InDesign, etc.
    • Urban technology: Figma, Python, coding, website design, etc
    • Urban Planning: GIS, public databases, etc.
  • Conduct informational interviews to build knowledge – and your network!
