The purpose of this guide is to better support faculty advising of Urban and Regional Planning (URP) PhD students. It should be particularly useful for new PhD advisors, but also offers experienced advisors a one-stop-shop for links to URP PhD program policies and procedures – some of which are regularly updated – as well as other UM resources faculty advisors commonly reference. Most information is from the URP PhD repository (accessible to all URP PhD students) and the URP PhD Student Handbook, however some sections include additional information that is not formally written in policy documents or the Student Handbook, such as common practices and procedures for facilitating and structuring key milestone meetings.
