The University of Michigan’s Tuition Support Program provides eligible staff with financial assistance for coursework taken to enhance job-related skills and support career development. Taubman College is generally able to support staff in pursuing higher education opportunities that align with their professional growth.
Staff may receive advancements/reimbursements for up to 75% of in-state tuition and registration fees when enrolled in an accredited program leading to a degree that the employee has not already earned (e.g., support would not be provided for a second bachelor’s or second master’s degree).
Support for coursework is subject to supervisor approval and departmental budget planning. In general, the college supports one course in the fall term and one course in the winter term. Tuition support must be included in the annual budget planning process, so staff are encouraged to discuss their plans with their supervisor early to ensure appropriate approval and funding availability.
Please note that tuition advances or reimbursements exceeding $5,250 in a calendar year, for graduate level courses, will be considered taxable income and will be reported to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Federal, State, and FICA taxes withheld on any amount in excess of $5,250.
