Conducting an Intentional Job Search

Being intentional as you search for jobs, internships and professional opportunities makes the entire process easier. We recommend that you conduct research throughout your time at Taubman College as your career goals and interests evolve.

Keeping track of information that may be useful in your job or internship search will help you when you begin searching. Keep notes as you discover firms and organizations of interest, connect with your fellow students, and build relationships with faculty and alumni. This Sample Tracking Spreadsheet, accessible through Google Drive using your U-M credentials, may prove useful as you conduct research and embark on your search for professional opportunities.

  • Could you identify some employers that are similar to [TARGET EMPLOYER NAME]?

If you are still in an exploratory stage, you can search for opportunities that might be a good fit. Some example queries are listed below:

  • Generate a table that ranks these career paths according to the following criteria: [IMPORTANT CAREER CONSIDERATIONS].
    • These considerations might include compensation, work-life balance, social impact, project growth, etc.
