Application & Registration
- How many credits is a Spring Propositions Course?
- 6 credits
- How do I apply to a Spring Propositions course?
- Courses are only open to M.Arch students in their next-to-last year.
- A spring travel application including a ranked choice ballot will be sent to you, which asks you to rank your 1st and 2nd choices. Only rank courses that you will actually participate in. Your 1st choice is not guaranteed.
- How do I register?
- Student Affairs will issue enrollment permissions and instructions via email, once ballot assignments are complete.
- Participating students must enroll full-time (minimum of 9 credits) in the Fall and Winter terms following their Spring Studio. They can work with Student Affairs to determine the best options for maintaining this status on an individual basis (this is particularly important for international students, student athletes, and students receiving financial aid and/or scholarships in the Fall/Winter).
Travel Cost & Financial Aid
- How much does a Spring Travel course cost?
- Students are responsible for all costs associated with travel, including but not limited to: airfare, lodging, transportation, visa and vaccinations, meals, admission fees
- What funding is available to Taubman College students, and how is that funding applied?
- Taubman College students participating in eligible travel courses receive a scholarship up to $1,500, to be used toward accommodations, airfare, transportation and admission fees only.
- How these funds are dispersed varies by course design: in some instances, the instructor may use the funds to make logistical purchases on your behalf; in others, the funds may be distributed to the students as a stipend or reimbursement. Be aware that in some instances funding may not be dispersed until after travel is complete.
- Funding will reflect as a scholarship award on student accounts.
- International students: Per IRS regulations, international students are taxed at a rate of 14% on scholarship awards. This rate could be further reduced under an income tax treaty agreement between the United States and your home country. For questions regarding potential tax implications, contact the U-M Payroll Office.
- Are Spring Propositions courses eligible for financial aid?
- No, Spring Propositions studio courses are not eligible for financial aid.
Travel Logistics
- How will our travel be structured? What will our accommodations be like?
- Travel design and arrangements vary by course. Connect with the instructor for specific logistical details.
- For most Spring Propositions courses, all or a portion of the logistical arrangements will be the responsibility of the students (for example, you may be responsible for identifying and arranging your own housing, flights and/or transportation). For others, the instructor may make some arrangements on your behalf.
- In many instances, accommodations are shared among pairs or groups of students.
Travel Visas
- How do I begin the Visa process for international Spring travel?
- Travel visa requirements are highly variable, based on individual citizenship status and destination.
- Taubman College cannot assist with the visa application process, and we encourage you to research visa requirements prior to balloting and to apply for your visa as far in advance as possible.
- The consulate of the country to which you’re traveling will always be your best resource for visa information. Any questions regarding visa requirements for other countries should be directed to the consulate of the country where you are applying for the visa.
- U-M students are eligible for discounted rates with CIBT Visas: an optional, student-paid provider that can assist with visa applications. Outside of their paid services, their website can provide a free snapshot of visa requirements to help with your planning.
- Important Resources:
- U-M’s International Center is available to consult with international students traveling abroad, based on each student’s unique circumstances.
- Student Legal Services is available to help students navigate international-travel concerns related to their citizenship status, gender identifiers, and more.
