Examples: Honoraria for class speakers; individual service payments to an editor, photographer, consultant, etc. The individual can opt to provide an invoice, but this is not required unless they want to be paid as a company/organization (see Pay a Company/Organization).
Note: Individuals can be hired as temporary employees for recurring services, e.g., work on a research grant (see Hiring Temporary Employees).

- Select the best answer; if you don’t know, please select “Unknown”.
- Citizen status
- Select the best answer; if you don’t know, please select “Unsure”.
- No early payment
- Taubman College never pre-pays a service.
- Approval documentation for shortcode usage if the requester is not the SC owner or authorized user.
- Individual’s affiliation with UM
- Please contact the financial senior manager if there are additional questions (such as gross-up, etc.).
Instructions for Faculty
- Please email Taubman College Finance (taubmancollegefinance@umich.edu) with the following information:
- Payee’s full name & email address
- Payee is (current UM employee, recent employee/student, non-UM affiliated, unknown); If not sure, please indicate “unknown”.
- Payment amount
- Shortcode
- Business purpose
- Service date
- Location where the service was performed
Please note that an individual who has never received payments from UM before will require additional time for supplier registration, which is wholly handled by the UM Shared Service Center (SSC). The timeline depends on how quickly the individual completes their part of the process.
